Northern Cyprus is a democratic republic situated south of Greece and Turkey in the Mediterranean Sea.

The Turkish New Lira (YTL) is the official currency, with notes in denominations from 1 to 100 YTL and coins in YTL and kuruş. The USD, GBP, and EUR may also be accepted at various locations throughout North Cyprus. Exchanges may be done at any local bank.

North Cyprus has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Average annual temperature is 19ºC (66ºF), and summer highs can exceed 40ºC (105ºF). Sea temperatures average 21ºC (75ºF), with annual rainfall around 500 mm.
